Town Mill Takes Silver Award at Dorset Tourism Awards
The volunteers, staff and tenants at Lyme Regis’ Town Mill are celebrating success after their recent silver award at the Dorset Tourism Awards 2016.
After having been announced as a finalist in the category of Small Visitor Attraction of the Year’, the local charitable organisation were delighted when they received sponsorship from Dorset Magazine to be able to attend the awards ceremony at Bovington Tank Museum on 13th October.
Town Mill Trustee, artist, and gallery curator Phil Clayton collected the award. He said “This trophy is testimony to the combined efforts of our volunteers to give visitors the best possible experience when they come to the mill. We consistently get great feedback from people who have come to see the working watermill in action: expertly demonstrated by our volunteer millers, and ably assisted by our shop volunteers. Our galleries have hosted an ambitious range of varied exhibitions this year, and we have developed our education programme and taken pleasure in sharing the mill with scouting groups, schoolchildren, old Oxonians and even childminding groups. We are also increasing the amount of events we hold for both tourist and local residents to enjoy, such as musical performances over the summer, and our upcoming Hallowe’en and Christmas festivities. We were the only charitable organisation in our category, so the whole mill community has every right to be very proud of what they have achieved and deserve this recognition”.
