The Galleries and Town Mill Arts

Courtyard Gallery and The Malthouse:
open every day, 10.30am to 4.30pm

Lyme Regis is home to many artists, and the appealing gallery space at The Town Mill is an important focus for their work. The galleries are run by the Town Mill Arts, part of The Town Mill Trust.

The Town Mill Arts attracts both established artists and first timers. An important aim of the Trust is to support and encourage local artists and craftspeople to hold successful exhibitions. The model is very simple: membership fees are low and the galleries are offered for hire to members for short slots throughout the year. No selection takes place – it's first come first served, with priority given to those who haven't already exhibited.

This has proved to be a highly successful way of working. Those with an established body of work may be ready for solo or duo shows, whilst beginners might want to participate in a small group show, or in the regular members' exhibitions. Visitors are treated to artisan paintings and etchings, watercolours, photographs and ceramics – unique works of art for the home or workplace and wonderful as gifts.

To keep the programme varied and stimulating, Town Mill Arts invites established artists from the wider South West area to exhibit. All the artists steward their own shows – it's a vital part of the experience – and allows you, the visitor, to chat with the artists.
