Following the Town Mill Trust's recent acquisition of the old Malthouse building beside the mill, part of that building has been converted to house a microbrewery.

The brewing equipment was installed in the Town Mill Brewery in March 2010 and after a series of test brews, the brewer, Jon Hosking, started making beer to sell in time for Easter.

When the Town Mill Brewery is fully up and running, it will sell bottled beers to visitors and local shops, with cask beer available to local licensed premises. Initially the Town Mill Brewery will produce one beer, which has been given a name of special significance to Lyme Regis.

COBB BITTER

ABV 3.9%

The first beer to be made at this brewery. Brewed using Pale, Crystal and Amber malts togther with Fuggles and Goldings hops.

An amber/brown bitter with a full flavour and traditional tasting fruity hop finish.

BLACK VEN

ABV 5.0%

We shall be offering this beer later on in the year. Brewed using Pale, Crystal, Black and Chocolate malts together with Brambling Cross hops.

A dark brown porter with a pronounced depth of flavour, enhanced with the blackcurrant fruitiness of the hops.

The Town Mill Brewery has a five barrel brew length (the amount of beer we can brew in one go). This amounts to 1,440 pints. The arrangement of tanks is the classical one: hot liquor tank, mash tun, kettle and fermenting vessels. These are made of stainless steel. Our production limit is a consequence of the space available (about 36m²). We have two fermenting vessels so, in practice, we can brew twice a week.

Our brewing process is the same as that used by most small breweries. We use only English grown malt and hops and no additives but we do use finings to clear the beer.

The Town Mill Brewery welcomes visitors to see the brewery in operation. However, visits must be booked in advance.

There is a small shop in the entrance to the brewery (in the mill courtyard), where you can buy our beer in draught form. Bring you own container or buy one of ours in 36, 18 or 4 pint sizes. Once we are into full production, you will be able to buy our bottled products at the brewery as well as memorabilia such as T-shirts and beer glasses.
