There will also be a People’s Choice Prize which will be awarded at the end of the exhibition to the artist whose work is most voted for throughout the exhibition.  The winner of the People’s Choice Prize will have the opportunity to have a Giclee print made of their work (prize sponsored by Image Art, Gillingham, Dorset.

Vivienne Light was born in West Dorset and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. She is also a writer and very experienced art exhibition organiser. In 2000 she established Canterton Press, an independent arts press.

Anna Powell lives in Dorset. Since 2006 she has been the curator and director of Sladers Yard in West Bay, a gallery showing contemporary British art, furniture and craft. Before that, she and her husband had a gallery in Pimlico Road, London.

             
 
   
             
Competition Entries - Submission Information    
             

Entry Fee.
The entry fee for the Open Art Competition is £10 and all exhibits must be original.   Work can be on any subject matter (*please see note at the end of this information section re suitability), and can include paintings, textile work, sculpture and pottery but not Photography (Please contact the Town Mill if you are in any doubt that the type of work you are wishing to submit will be suitable).  Works should not exceed 75 cm x 75 cm – anything bigger will not be accepted.  Please note that we are not accepting cards for sale for this exhibition

Entry Form.
You can find a pdf copy of the Entry Form here. The first part of the entry form must be sent to the Town Mill prior to the handing in day and must be received by the Town Mill no later than Friday 8th June 2012 (please do not send your entry fee with the form - this should be handed in when you bring your work in – only cash or cheques made payable to the Town Mill Trust will be accepted).
Any entry forms received after 8th June will not be accepted.  Unfortunately there is only limited space for showing work in the Malthouse and work will be considered on a first come first served basis only (based on when the entry form is received).

Reserve Work.
If your work sells you will be contacted and invited to hang another of a similar size in its place   – there will be no extra entry charge for this. (Please do not bring your   reserve  work with you on handing in day as we have nowhere  to store it).

·     Submission Dates.
Your work and entry fee should be brought to the Town Mill Malt house (not gallery) on either Sunday 17th between 1pm and 7pm or  Monday 18th June 2012 between 1pm and 7pm.

         

Hanging and Labelling Instructions.
To help us hang your work successfully, please follow these instructions: Use medium to large ‘D’ rings placed on the sides at the back of your work; use tightly stretched hanging cord made of a material other than nylon; your work must have a sticky label on the back with your Name and Title of Work.       In addition, there must be a luggage sized label with your name, address and phone number on which must hang below your work. This will only be visible during hanging for cataloguing purposes.

             

Insurance.
The Town Mill is not responsible for any loss or damage that may occur to any work whilst it is on the mill premises, though all reasonable care will be taken.  Exhibitors are advised to arrange their own insurance to cover any potential loss or damage.

Stewarding The Exhibitions.
We have a small band of regular volunteer stewards and we ask exhibitors to share stewarding when possible.  When you bring your work in there will be the opportunity for you to fill in a sheet letting us know which days and times you might be able to steward

           

Collection of unsold works.
Collection will be from the Malthouse on Sunday 22nd July between 2pm and 5pm and on Monday 23rd July between 1pm and 5pm.  (Please note that your work cannot be collected prior to these times).  If for any reason you are unable to pick your work up at the times stated above please contact the Town Mill to arrange a suitable time after the exhibition has ended.  The Trust reserves the right to dispose of any work that is not picked up by the 6th August 2012.

Commission.
If your work is sold during the exhibition The Town Mill Trust will take a commission of 30% plus VAT. The Trust will make a payment to the artist at the end of the exhibition. Please allow up to four weeks after the end of the exhibition for payment to be made.

       

Parking.
Please note when dropping off and picking up your work – there are unfortunately, no parking facilities at the Town Mill.

         

ARTWORK SUITABILITY. The Town Mill reserves the right to refuse any piece of work that it deems unsuitable for a family exhibition or for any other reason.

About the Open Art Exhibition

Works submitted by the competition entrants will be displayed at The Open Art Exhibition in the Malthouse Gallery at the Town Mill.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners will be announced at the opening of the exhibition – 12 noon on Saturday 23rd June 2012 at the Town Mill Malthouse. The 'People's Choice' Prize will be determined at the end of the exhibition.
