The Town Mill is located in the heart of Lyme Regis, which is in West Dorset, on the south coast of England. Lyme is a seaside holiday resort and a working harbour for fishing boats and pleasure craft. The town is also located within the beautiful Dorset and East Devon Jurassic Coast area, awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in December 2001. |
This spectacular area of coastline was granted World Heritage status because of its superb geology and its extensive range and quantity of fossils. The Heritage Site ranges from Exmouth in East Devon to Swanage on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset. Lyme Regis is one of the site's Gateway Towns. |

| Finding The Town Mill | ||||||
The Town Mill is located in the centre of the town in Mill Lane, just off Coombe Street. There are no public parking facilities at the Town Mill, so the site is best approached on foot. However, the mill is only a few minutes walk from several of the town's car parks and Broad Street, the main shopping area in the centre of Lyme Regis. The bus stop by the seafront at the bottom of Broad Street also serves as the coach drop-off point for large parties. |
| To get to the mill from the top of Broad Street, stroll down narrow and picturesque Sherborne Lane. At the bottom of the lane, turn right over the River Lim, then right again onto the path between the river and the millstream, or leat. This Riverside Walk leads you straight to the Town Mill. | ||||||
If you are in Broad Street, you can get to the mill using a new footpath opened in 2006. The path, with a new footbridge crossing of the River Lim, can be accessed via the lower Broad Street Car Park or through Drake's Way (just below the Royal Lion Hotel) and leads directly to the Town Mill courtyard and Mill Lane. However, because of the steep terrain and limited space, this path does have a number of steps in it. |
| There is a further route, which does not involve steps, from the bottom of Broad Street. With the sea on your right, follow the main road for about fifty yards, across the River Lim to the traffic lights. Turn left into Coombe Street. Continue along this street for about 250 yards, then take the first left - Mill Lane -where you will see the Town Mill straight ahead of you. | ||||||
