| A New Shop Opens at the Town Mill | ||||||
| Blackberry Beauty available! | ||||||
The Miller’s Garage at the Town Mill opened in September as a new venture, selling ice cream, bread and cakes. The new shop offers organic ice cream from Marshfield Farm near Chippenham - the current favourite flavour is ‘Blackberry Beauty’. There’s also a range of locally baked loaves, baguettes and scones, plus homemade cakes such as carrot, apple and coffee. The shop is under the experienced management of Gary Barnes, former owner of Jalitos in Lyme's Broad Street. “It’s good to have this part of the mill back in use again selling bread”, said Gary. |
The shop lease is for an initial three month trial period which could be extended if the demand is there. So far the new shop has seen a steady stream of customers and Gary would welcome any feedback from visitors. Just e-mail the mill at the address at the bottom of this page or, better still, pop in to the shop to try the wares and offer your comments. |

The Town Mill Pottery - | |||||
| Throw -a -Pot Weekend | ||||||
Over the weekend of 2 & 3 August 2008 the Town Mill Potters, with the help of their students, and on behalf of both Lifeboat week and Carnival week, offered people the chance to make a pot.
Four wheels were sited in the courtyard over the weekend and 160 people took up the challenge and tried their hand making a pot. They used special clay that dries in the air and can be painted and varnished. So all of the pots were taken home by their creators. The Lifeboat Week and Carnival Week charities each received £324 from this fund-raising initiative and great fun was had by all. |

| The Town Mill Model | ||||||
The Town Mill is delighted to unveil the one-tenth scale model of the Town Mill recently completed by Jim Macallister, a skilled model maker and one of our millers. The model, which took three years to complete, is 4ft long, 3ft wide and 5ft high. Its cutaway structure, made mostly of oak and beech, shows the mill machinery in meticulously fine detail, with all the pieces hand-made by Jim. The water wheel turns, levers and gears move and engage, the tiny millstones revolve and it is even possible to adjust the separation of the two millstones, an intricate task even at full scale. Even our new hydro-electric system is included. The model can be seen on the Sack Floor of the mill building during the normal tour of the watermill. It provides a very useful demonstration of the layout of this very large mill over its four floors and its absolute accuracy is a great tribute to the skills of Jim Macallister. |
