LANDMARKS: the Colours and Patterns of Dorset

Hilary always enjoyed art at school, but it was not until she moved to Lyme Regis from Berkshire in 2007 that she took up her paint brushes again. She joined local art groups and classes, trying out different media, including watercolours, oil pastels, soft pastels, acrylic, oils and collage.  She loves Art Deco, and this has inspired her to paint the varying patterns and shapes of the local landscape in her own graphic style.

She is inspired by the landscape of Dorset and the Jurassic coast, especially when viewed from above, where you can see the wonderful patchwork and colours of the fields and coastline. She wants her paintings to make the onlooker smile and to feel that that they are actually there, in the landscape.

Hilary has exhibited ten times with Colour Line & Thread since 2011 at the Town Mill, but after a hugely successful first solo exhibition in 2023, we welcome her return as a solo exhibitor again this year. As well as her original work, she will also have her cards, prints and calendars available.
