LAYERS & LIGHT
Lisa Parkyn is an expressive abstract artist, interpreting nature and life through intuitive painting. ‘Layers & Light’ showcases her art inspired by the natural world here in the SW of England. Lisa will also offer demonstrations, share her creative art process and take booking for her upcoming July Workshop focussing on ‘Connecting to nature through art and mark-making’.
Originally from the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, Lisa has lived in Devon for the past 12 years where she practices from her studio. She studied and had a career in graphic design in South Africa and London. After overseas travel and still raising a family, she pursues her career as an artist full-time.
She has a deep affinity with the natural world and draws inspiration from the textures, patterns, colours and atmosphere experienced. Exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby Jurassic coast, she collects interesting objects which she keeps in her studio for inspiration including fossils, dried seed heads, pebbles, decaying flowers and leaf skeletons. Her studies in graphic design, movement psychotherapy and world travels all influence her art.
In recent years Lisa’s art practise has become process driven and more abstract over time. Her passion for exploration and play has allowed her artistic voice to evolve and keeps her enthralled.
In the last few years Lisa has exhibited widely including the South West Academy of Fine Arts Open 2020, English Riviera Winter Open 2020, Devon Open Studios, Harbour House Spring Open 2019 in Kingsbridge, Thelma Hulbert Open 2018 as well as joint and solo shows including the Lyme Regis Malthouse Gallery.
