PETE HACKETT

Open Daily 1000 - 1700

The village of Uplyme - nestled in the rolling hills of East Devon - was where Pete Hackett found his best subject matter, though he had travelled the world to find it. It was in his own backyard, in the familiar streets and on the sea-sprayed benches of Lyme Regis that he found his most profound inspiration.

Years ago, a turning point arrived in the form of a daily photography challenge on blipfoto.com. It became a creative anchor - a way to focus his lens not on grand, staged events, but on the quiet everyday poetry of his local community. His artist’s eye drew him to moments of contemplation on a seaside bench or the unique patterns of discarded objects on the beach. A skilled woodworker, Pete is the kind of man who might spend his time repairing the very benches that inspire his art, connecting his practical skills with his creative vision.

Pete continues to find inspiration in the subtle rhythms of Uplyme and Lyme Regis - his work perhaps really being a love letter to the place he calls home.

We’re pleased to welcome Pete back to the gallery this year - the surprise he delivers each year almost marks the start of the festive season.
