We’re always delighted to welcome a new artist to the space and Terry’s work certainly caught our eye at this year’s Lyme Regis Art Society exhibition in which a couple of lovely pieces featured.

Terry tells us :

“This new collection of work reflects my love of my immediate environment. Primarily my two happy places…my garden and Charmouth beach.

Although the subjects differ, my aim in both is to create the essence of movement through layers of loose expressive mark making and printed texture and pattern.

This reflects my background as a textile and fashion designer. After studying surface pattern and knitwear design at St Martin’s and Central Schools of Art, I left London for Mid Wales where I started my own knitwear business designing and making one off garments.

Twenty years later I fulfilled a long held dream and took a PGCE in Art and Design and became a full time Lecturer and Faculty Head teaching Textile Design.

This was followed by  2 VSO Placements in SW China where I had the amazing experience of teaching Textile Design on their Sustainable Livelihood programme.

Although immersed in art and design what these full time jobs didn’t allow me to do was my own work.

So when I returned to the UK after also working in Tanzania, I moved back to West Dorset, an area which had made such an impression on me as a schoolgirl boarder at the Woodroffe School.

Although I’ve lived and worked on different continents I now find constant inspiration from my present environment and joy at having the time to find my own creative voice.”
