Mill springs into Spring with Silver at South West Tourism Awards
The volunteers, staff and tenants at Lyme Regis’ Town Mill are celebrating success after their recent award at the South West Tourism Awards 2017/18. At a black-tie ceremony held at the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay, the local charitable organisation were delighted to take home a beautiful sculpted glass trophy for winning a silver award in the category of ‘Small Visitor Attraction of the Year’.
Town Mill Trustee and photographer, Tricia Scott, collected the award. She said “We are extremely proud to be bringing this award home to Lyme. Considerable efforts have been made by supporters past and present to rescue, restore and then keep the Town Mill alive. There is a constant drive to keep making this small visitor attraction even better, despite its limitations as a charitable organisation whose home is a group of high-maintenance, listed buildings. We are embracing change to allow us to survive and prosper, whilst honouring and valuing past contributors to the history and conservation of the mill. We were delighted to have been recognised for the unique experience we offer to our visitors and to win Silver is just the best way to start 2018!’
This February half term is a great time to see Lyme’s award-winning Mill after it reopens after a winter break. In addition to guided mill tours, art exhibitions and creative artisans, there is a programme of family-friendly activities on selected days:
Children’s Printmaking Workshops

Jan from Lyme’s ‘The Writing Room’ will guide participants to create a folded lantern shape in a vintage hardback book.
