Sea, Shore & more : Chris Goodman & Sue Lewin : 5th until 11th August : Daily 10.00 – 17.00

‘Sea, Shore and More’ is an exhibition by local artists Sue Lewin and Chris Goodman, featuring seascapes, landscapes and much more. As well as paintings and prints, gift items designed by the artists, including Chris’s iconic tea towels will be on sale.

Chris Goodman is a local Devon artist. His acrylic paintings and prints are mainly inspired by the local marine environment but depict other natural forms such as landscapes and botanical subjects. He studied Graphic Design at Newham College, London and the University of Plymouth. Having worked both as a marine scientist and a graphic designer, he is inspired by his past experiences in these fields and also his current proximity to the Devon and Dorset coastlines. Chris’ graphic style lends itself to fabulous giftware which capture our coastal location so brilliantly.

Sue Lewin’s paintings are inspired by the dramatic light and mood of sea and sky, and natural landscape and reflect her interest in geology as well as a love of nature and travel.  The drama of storm features regularly in her work, reflecting patterns of fleeting light movements which has both a drama and a soft intensity.

This can also be seen by her curious figures of either solitary walkers or group figures that meander like clouds along the beachscape. You want to know what these people are doing so you enquire deeper into her pictures.

Sue works mainly in acrylics, occasionally stirring in sand, blue lias or natural pigment into the paint and sometimes works on a textured canvas, layering paint with tones of colour to create depth. Atmosphere is created by the subtlest of transitions from dark to light, dry brushing and utilizing a palette knife to pick up texture and highpoints.
